The Board of Directors is sad to announce that our President, Marilyn LaMance, had to resign earlier this year for personal reasons. Heather Mathews has stepped into Marilyn's role and will continue to serve out the remainder of her term. Heather will also serve as President in 2019, as originally planned. Our Presidential Advisor, Rebecca Schottie has graciously agreed to fill the office of President Elect for the remainder of the year. The Board would like to thank Marilyn for all her hard work and dedication to the Chapter and looks forward to her continued membership in our Chapter.
Chapter members Chris Jackson and Debra Weishan have also stepped up and will be taking on the roles of Webmaster and Newsletter Editor in the very near future. Look for their contributions on these pages in the months to come. Volunteers make our Chapter great and we can't thank them enough.
July means that we have entered a new fiscal year, which means it's time to pay your annual dues. Pay online in the Member area of the website. Your dues support the work of the Chapter and help us further payroll education in The Woodlands area. If you have payroll topics that you would like to have presented at future meetings, or know of any speakers you would like to hear from, please share that information with one of the Board members. We're here for you.
The Woodland Chapter is serving as Host Chapter for this year's Texas Payroll Conference, which will be held on September 12 - 15, at The Waterway Marriott. The Chapter will have a booth in the registration area to help conference attendees find their way around The Woodlands. We live and work in a great area and want to share it with the rest of the State of Texas. We also need the help of our members in order to staff the booth during the conference. If you think you might be interested, even if you are not attending the conference, please contact Heather Mathews or Susan Payton to sign up for a spot. We also need volunteers to design, build and work in our Chapter booth in the vendor hall. Spending time in either booth is a great way to meet new people and share information about The Woodlands Chapter.
August means back to school, which means Dr. Becky Playfair, of Oak Ridge Elementary will be joining us at our August membership meeting. We have supported this Conroe ISD school for many years and look forward to hearing about the children it serves. The school supply list will be attached to the meeting announcement for the August meeting. In addition, Dr. Playfair has asked specifically for plastic pencil boxes, black dry erase markers, yellow highlighters, pencils, crayons, glue sticks and size 4 and 5 boys and girls underpants (for accidents). Please bring donations of school supplies to the meeting and remember that the weekend of August 10- 12 is tax free holiday weekend.
Jerry and Debbie Reed of Operation Military Embrace will join us at our September National Payroll Week meeting on September 4th. Monetary donations will be gratefully accepted and used for the great work this organization does for our wounded military.
Carolyn Salazar and Claudia Watson will be joining forces for a presentation on compliance at our August membership meeting on August 14th. They will discuss the costs of noncompliance to an organization and offer both tips and resources to help you stay out of hot water. Come and learn how you can become the resident expert and go-to payroll professional that your management seeks out when they need answers fast.
Our September meeting on September 4th will be a celebration of National Payroll Week. Rebecca Schottie and Brenda Dixon are chairing this year's event. Look for announcements about the meeting in the very near future.
